Location and transport

Spring Farm Public School welcomes safe road users. The streets of our school often are very busy during school pick up and drop off hours. Collectively pedestrians, bike users and motor vehicles can potentially create hazards for all road users.

At Spring Farm Public School we ask that all road users obey the rules of the road and exercise extreme courtesy and caution at all times.

Parking

The roads surrounding our school are narrow suburban streets. Please ensure you park responsibly and only park where it is safe and legal to do so,  even if it means you have to walk further to the school gate. When parking and walking with your child, please ensure that your child leaves your vehicle on the kerbside via the safety door. Please refrain from encouraging students to cross the road and walk behind cars by calling them or sounding a horn. Parking on council nature strips is prohibited at all times.

Pedestrians

There is one pedestrian access gate at the front of the school. There is a second gate, however, this is reserved for entrance for kiss and ride students. When entering and exiting the school from either of the gates, pedestrians are required to cross the road via the pedestrian crossing (see photo). This is supervised by a Road Crossing Supervisor before and after school.

Always hold your child's hand when crossing. It is recommended practice until 8 years of age. Please supervise your child in the roadside environment until they reach 10 years of age. It is also good to practice "Stop, Look, Listen and Think" with your child before crossing the road

The Main gate is locked during school hours , however, there is a intercom system for access to the administration building. All other gates are locked during school hours. Gates are opened just before bell time at 2.55.

Bus Zone

There is a designated bus bay at the front of the school. Please exercise care around buses. Do not cross the road in between buses, always wait until the bus has gone, before crossing the road on the designated pedestrian crossing. It is illegal to park in this bus bay at any time.

Bus Expectations

Spring Farm Public School has expectations for our students to be safe on public transport and to be  best representing our school while doing so,. It is expected that students will:

-         remain seated properly.

-        Keep hands and feet to themselves.

-        Tap on and off with their opal cards.

-        Keep food and rubbish in their bags.

-        Leave phones in their bags.

-        Treat others respectfully, minding not to bump into others.

 Safety on Wheels

Students can ride bicycles and scooters to and from school with parental permission. Students must wear an Australian Standards fitting helmet and dismount from their bicycle or scooter at pedestrian crossings. Students must walk their bicycle or scooter on school grounds and enter and exit via the Main Gate. Bicycles must be stored in the bicycle racks, located behind the hall. Students must provide their own lock.

Staff Carpark

The staff car park and entry is for the use of staff only. The gates are locked during school hours. Please be careful when crossing the entrance to this carpark, reminding students tpo look both ways for cars entering or exiting the car park. Remind students not to ride their bikes or scooters in the vicinity of this gate, should they arrive early to school.

Crossing Barley Road

There is a pedestrian crossing at the front of the main gate.  Please do not cross or encourage students to cross Barley road anywhere except for at the crossing.

Getting to and from school safely

As a parent or carer, it’s your responsibility to get your child to and from school safely. Student safety is our priority.

Keep our school community safe by:

  • driving and parking safely, even if it means parking further away and walking the rest of the way to school
  • being a good role model
  • never calling your child from across the road
  • using the safest place to cross the road.

For parents and carers of younger children

Discuss with your child how to be safe when:

Also talk about and practise:

  • safe travel routes
  • plans for when unexpected things happen
  • what to do in wet weather.

Subsidised school travel

Transport for NSW provides subsidies to assist school students.

  • The School Student Transport Scheme provides eligible students with free or subsidised travel on public transport between home and school.
  • The School Drive Subsidy may help towards the costs of driving children to school if you live in an area where there is no public transport.
